Diets That Work

I’m going to tell you something that you already know in your heart is true. Most fad and trendy diets don’t work unless they are coupled with exercise. There is no safe magic pill or daily menu that will work by itself.  Weight gain is a problem of taking in more calories than you burn. Often, people who are trying to lose weight go on a diet that reduces calorie intake, but they don’t increase exercise. Diets that work pay attention to both exercise and calorie intake.

If you really want to lose weight, this can be accomplished by some simple changes in your routine. Most calories are burned during daylight hours. Eat a good breakfast, moderate lunch and sensible dinner. A good breakfast will give you energy that you need to get through the day. If you like to drink soda pop, try not to drink any after noon. At dinnertime, don’t go back for seconds, and cut out all late night snacks. If you have dinner at 7:00 p.m., try moving it up an hour or two. Calories build up in the body while you are sleeping, so the less you eat right before going to sleep, the better off you will be.

fat lossYou will need to burn more calories, but his doesn’t mean you need to exercise to the point of exhaustion. If you work in an office building, try taking the stairs if it’s only a few floors up. If daylight allows, take a light walk after dinner.

So are there any Diets that Work?

The best diets that work are equal parts of calorie reduction and exercise, and the safe ones don’t produce results overnight. Beware of flashy advertising slogans that seem too good to be true. Promises of weight loss of twenty pounds per week probably won’t work, and it they do, they more than likely aren’t healthy for you.

Obesity often goes hand in hand with other medical problems like high cholesterol, weight gain, and depression. The toughest part of committing to weight loss is the change of mindset. Habits that have been formed over years can be tough to break. Before you commit to a good diet that works, run it over in your mind what it’s going to be like to make the changes that are needed. The fatigue you may feel from taking a walk, the yearning you will have for the late night snack, etc. compared with the positive results of feeling good about losing weight and just being overall healthier than you are now.  Once you have mentally committed to a diet that works all you have to do is begin.
